This site lets
you find out how much land in British Columbia is certified to CSA, FSC
and SFI standards, which companies have achieved forest certification, the
species found in a certified forest, how long it has been certified and
which certification body conducted the audit.
British Columbia is a world leader in third-party forest
certification, with 47 million hectares (117 million acres) of certified
lands – most of them publicly owned.
The three globally recognized programs used in British
Columbia – CSA, FSC and SFI – all require that harvested areas are
reforested, laws are obeyed and that there is no unauthorized or illegal
logging. All ensure that biological diversity is conserved, wildlife
habitat maintained – and much more.
The current status by forest certification standard is as
follows:
| 47 | CSA Forests totalling 28,773,643 hectares (71,098,699 acres) | | 9 | FSC Forests totalling 664,848 hectares (1,642,816 acres) | | 24 | SFI Forests totalling 17,835,989 hectares (44,072,126 acres) |
